The Appraising Ear

A quick sojourn in Berlin last summer introduced me to the idea of dancing for 18 hours straight fuelled only by coffee and Club Mate to music that never quite drops. It took me all of two minutes to turn into a techno fist pumping, "der hammer" shouting wannabe.

Kris Menace's latest mixtape, Cold Spring, is an hour of pure Teutonic joy. He began making music under this name in 2005, and since then he has carefully toed the line between commercial and underground, mixing electro and house loveliness and remixing the likes of Metronomy, Moby and Kylie Minogue.

It is in fact a recent remix which led me to write this post, as he has turned his estimable talents to the music of Lana Del Rey. Now I used to love the perma-pouty one, but since her disastrous SNL performance I've found myself skipping her tracks. However this reminded me of how pretty her voice can be, when she's not drunk or eaten a shit load of gillyweed or something.

East London, Nice To Look At

Blonde Ambition

The plants are budding, the little creatures are stirring and the birds are building nests. As the days grow longer we look for light, new growth and pretty pastels. It's time to crack out the bleach.

I'm going East for a tour of the land of the cherry blossom, but before I do I want my hair to match the immaculate whiteness of these ladies do's. Watch this space.

All photos of the beautiful Aline Weber and Abbey Lee Kershaw are obviously not mine. Especially those of Aline in French Vogue.
